Congresswoman Hahn Applauds President Obama For Taking Action to Expand College Opportunity for All Students

Statement

Date: June 9, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congresswoman Janice Hahn (CA-44) issued a statement regarding President Obama's executive order to help relieve student loan debt for millions of young people:

"I applaud President Obama's commitment to our young people by expanding the college opportunity for all Americans. President Obama's action will allow all young people regardless of their background an opportunity to go to college without the stress and burden of heavy student loan debt following graduation. This executive order would lift the burden off our students and help millions of Americans lower their monthly loan payments by capping their payments at 10% of their income. We need to ensure that there is an affordable path to higher education for all, and not just for a chosen few. We don't want student loan debt to be a deterrent to young people looking to attend college and better themselves. This bill will help many of the students right here in my district in California struggling to pay down their student debt, while trying to pay their everyday living expenses and rent. Every American should be afforded the opportunity to pursue their academic aspirations without the financial burdens."
